New Rules For Truck Drivers At The Lithuania-Belarus Border

New Rules For Truck Drivers At The Lithuania-Belarus Border

What has happened since December?

From December 1, mandatory pre-registration for trucks comes into force on the Lithuania-Belarus border and the Kaliningrad region of Russia.

Truck drivers are required to register in the system in advance. It is assumed that this measure will help reduce the huge queues that have formed on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, writes the local publication LRT.

Trucks will be able to arrive at the waiting area closer to the booked time and not suffer from a long wait in a physical queue without comfortable living conditions. If trucks arrive at the waiting area without an appointment, they can be registered for the next available time.

To get into the electronic queue, you need to pay a registration fee. It is planned to earn 176 thousand euros from these fees. But almost 490 thousand will be spent on servicing and regulating queues.

"Pre-registration of all trucks in the electronic queue is an important measure to improve the overall level of security on the border with Belarus and Russia. And to prevent kilometer-long queues of trailers from forming at our border points," the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications explains.

According to the agency, the longest queues form on the border with Belarus in December and April - before Christmas and Easter. The longest queue stretched for 23 kilometers, with 900 trucks standing in it.
