The Prime Minister of Hungary is acting as a provocateur.
The initiatives of the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán on a truce and prisoner exchange are of no importance. Ukrainian political scientist and director of the Penta Center for Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko told OstroV about this.
“Orbán's initiatives are of no importance, he is acting as a provocateur. This is the same role that Medvedchuk played about 7 years ago. You can just look and compare: then Medvedchuk, at the instigation of Russia, promoted a large prisoner exchange, although there was an exchange mechanism between the Russian Federation and separatists on one side and Ukraine on the other. As now, there is an exchange mechanism, so Orbán is not needed. There is a mechanism for negotiations and agreements, and Orbán is superfluous here. He wants to promote himself and desecrate the Ukrainian position. This also applies to the so-called truce. It seems to me that Medvedchuk also promoted the idea of a Christmas truce, so the Kremlin simply took the old idea with Medvedchuk, and now Orbán is speaking in his place,” he believes.
He emphasized that in this way, Orbán wants to loudly end Hungary’s presidency of the EU.
“He also wants to promote himself as a mediator, as a participant in future negotiations, and he promotes himself both in relations with the Kremlin and in relations with Trump. But Ukraine, and I think the European Union, will be categorically against this. We are not satisfied with such a mediator. In addition, Orbán wants to raise his political weight in this way thanks to these loud initiatives, but this will not have any consequences,” the political scientist added.
