Belarusian Writer Receives Award ‘For Contribution To European Understanding’

Belarusian writer Alhierd Bakharevich received the Leipzig Book Prize “For contribution to European understanding”. His novel “Dogs of Europe” was recognized as “extremist” in Belarus. Bakharevich notes that this is a “significant and important international award”, Euroradio reports.
“I am glad that my main book is rated so highly; I am happy that it is read, translated, discussed,” the writer writes on his Facebook page. “It is a pleasure to be among the laureates of this award — such as Imre Kertész, Sviatlana Alexievich, Ryszard Kapuściński, Ian Kershaw, Yuri Andrukhovych, Claudio Magris, Eric Hobsbawm, Slavenka Drakulić and others... This year was extremely successful for the German and Belarusian “Dogs”.
The award ceremony will take place as part of the international Leipzig Book Fair on March 26, 2025.
